Murang’a
Seal FC have appointed former Harambee Stars assistant coach Yusuf Chipo as
their new head coach. Chipo replaces John Njogu who stepped down after a 3-0
whipping by Shabana FC in league match staged at Gusii Stadium on Sunday.
The loss
further compounded the club’s struggles in the Football Kenya Federation
Premier League, where they are now battling relegation – placed 16th
on the log on 24 points from 25 games.
Chipo brings
a wealth of experience, having coached at top-tier clubs and national teams
across East Africa and beyond.
His
coaching resume includes leading Ulinzi Stars to three consecutive Kenyan
Premier League titles (2003-2005) and guiding AS Ruwenzori to promotion in the
DR Congo.
He has
also served as an assistant coach for Harambee Stars in 2008 and 2011, had a
brief stint with AFC Leopards in 2014, and worked with Tanzanian sides Coastal
Union and Tabora United.
Despite
his vast experience, Chipo’s recent coaching spell at Tabora United ended in
October 2024 following a series of underwhelming results. However, his participation
in a CAF A diploma refresher course in August 2023 signals his commitment to
staying at the top of the game.
Murang’a
Seal now looks to Chipo for a turnaround as they fight to escape the relegation
zone. With time running out, all eyes will be on the new coach to see if he can
steer the club to safety and restore the fans’ faith in the team’s future.
