Schools competition: Shanderema Boys, Lunyu through to semis

Shanderema Boys and Lunyu Secondary are among the teams that have advanced to the semi-finals of the ongoing secondary school football competition at Shanderema School. The two teams kicked off their campaign successfully, securing their semi-final slots in the Ileho Zone tournament, held in Shinyalu Constituency, Kakamega County, on Saturday.

In the first match, the hosts, Shanderema Boys—nicknamed “The Eagles”—claimed a 3-0 victory against Friends Handidi before settling for a 1-1 draw with Lunyu, coached by Sabastian Soita, in Group A. 

Lunyu Secondary, on the other hand, won their opening match by edging out Friends Handidi 1-0, with the winning goal scored in the second half. 

In Group B, PAG Magale defeated Bishop Sulumeti 2-1, while Fesbeth Academy, under the leadership of former Kakamega High principal Oliver Minish, secured a 1-0 win over Bishop Sulumeti. Both Fesbeth Academy and Magale earned their places in the boys’ semi-finals. 

Speaking to Citizen Digital, KSSSA Ileho Zone Coordinator, Donald Muhanji, expressed satisfaction with the competition, highlighting the energy and enthusiasm from both players and fans. 

“The matches have been thrilling, and the fan support has been exceptional. We expect an exciting showdown tomorrow, Inshallah!” he remarked.
