School Games: Tigoi Girls target East African glory
Tigoi Girls
High School are now targeting success at the upcoming East African Secondary
School Games after failing to clinch the national hockey title.
The Vihiga-based
were stunned 1-0 by Nyamira Girls during last week’s national final in Eldoret,
Uasin Gishu County.
The western
region giants will be looking to step up their game and improve on their
fitness levels if they are to wrestle the East African from holders Kakungulu
from Uganda who have won it twice in a row.
Head coach
Moses Erima is confident that her girls will put in a spirited fight to see the
title home and end Kenya’s two year drought.
“We need to
improve on our fitness levels if we are to match Kakungulu because they already
beat us in experience. They have their players in form five and six so they are
already ahead but we can capitalize on fitness to go toe to toe with them.
“Kakungulu
has never beaten us so this year we will not allow them to do so. I urge my
attackers to be ruthless, utilize the chances created and capitalize on any
mistakes our opponents make,” Erima said.
Tigoi are
planning for a series of friendlies with Kenyan clubs when they report back for
term two to keep them in good shape and provide the experience they need ahead
of the regional school games.
