School Games: St. Anthony Kitale plot on reclaiming the national hockey title

St. Antony Kitale hockey head coach Kevin Lugalia says they are determined to reclaim the national title they lost to Musingu High School at last year’s national finals that was held in in Eldoret.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Lugalia said they have been holding high profile friendly matches and also participating in high profile tournaments and is confident the team has what it takes to reclaim the title from their arch rivals.

“Our aim is to reclaim the title we lost to Musingu last year and that can only come with proper preparations ahead of the competition,” he said. “This term we are playing some tournaments and friendlies to gauge ourselves against some of the best teams and so far I am impressed with what I have seen form the team.”

The former champions lost 1-0 to Musingu in the finals and the head coach says they are focusing on improving their attacking threat; an area he feels was their major weakness in last year’s competition.

“We have to improve our attack very much and make sure we always outscore our opponent with a large margin; that was our undoing last year and we have to improve on that before the start of the competition,” added Lugalia.

With the term one games set to commence mid this month, the veteran tactician says they won’t underestimate any team at any level of the competition choosing to treat every game as a final.

“We can't start talking about the nationals and we have very tough opponents at every level - from the sub county - we have to take one game at a time and treat every game as a final until we reclaim our title,” the head coach told Citizen Digital.
