School Games: St. Anthony coach Mayoyo bullish, laughs off Shanderema threat
St. Antony Kitale head coach Peter Mayoyo says he has nothing to fear over Shanderema Secondary School football team who are considered the new giant killers in the region.
Shanderama beat Musingu High School 3-0 in the Western
region finals to earn a ticket to the nationals set to take place in Kakamega
and Mayoyo says the pressure of being the host will be too much for the first
timers to cope up with.
“They are a good team but the national competition is on a
different league and this being their first time and to add on that they are
the host. It will be too much pressure for them to bear,”said Mayoyo.
‘The Saints’ beat
Christ the Secondary School from Kajiado 3-1 in the Rift Valley region finals
to qualify for the nationals and the veteran tactician attributed the win to
his players sticking to team tactics.
“Menegai was the toughest game we played; they have a very
solid team with players that have stuck together for long but the final was not
tough at all; it was an easy win, “added Mayoyo.
The five-time national champions will be camping in the
western part of the country to acclimatize ahead of the national championship
that kicks off on August 8 next month.
“So far we have only conceded two goals and scored 72 goals; we will continue working hard in our attack to make sure the strikers take every scoring opportunity that comes on their way,” the head coach told Citizen Digital.
