St. Anthony
Kitale football team head coach Peter
Mayoyo has warned opponents to expect a 'monster side', noting they cannot
afford to repeat the mistakes made during last year's county finals where they
lost to St. Joseph Kitale 2-0.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Mayoyo says they have learnt
from past mistakes and have already started early preparations ahead of next
term's games.
“This one of the
best teams I have ever assembled in my coaching career, we started early
preparations as early as last year, we have played very high profile friendly
matches and I can assure you these boys have the desire to win, there is
positive competition among the players and proper team work; so far I am very
pleased with what I am seeing,” said Mayoyo.
The head coach
went on to speak of the high profile tournaments and friendlies they have been
playing and says they are ready to face any opponents that come their way.
“We learned from
our mistakes last year, that was one of my lowest moment in the competition. This
year we are not going to underestimate any team, every game for this monster
kind of a team, will be like a final, so our opponents need to be wary of what
to expect,” stated Mayoyo.
The last time they won the national football title was in the 2023, and they hope to replicate the past heroics and also follow in the footsteps of their hockey male counterparts, who stormed to the Nationals, and are among the teams battling for honours at the Term 1 School Games, currently ongoing in Mombasa.
