School Games: Butere Girls, Wiyeta cruise to football final
Butere Girls are through to the final
of school games after stunning Madira Soccer Assassins 1-0 Friday morning in
the ongoing national championships at Bukhungu Stadium.
Diana Anyango's first half goal was
enough to help the Red Commandoes book a final slot for the first time since
2014 when they reigned supreme in their home turf.
Joy Angela Valencia showed her class -
cutting down on the left, dribbling past Madira's centre backs before releasing
a cut back for Anyango to slot in the winner
The win means Butere have now
completed a double against the Overall Division One Champions after crushing
them at the regional championships on the same score line.
Fatigue looked to have crippled in
Nixon Muleri's charges as they struggled against the Red Commandoes' tempo.
Butere's head coach Howard Shikanga
hailed his charges for an impressive shift while noting that they were going
all out for the title.
"I am happy for the win, we gave
our best and my girls are happy because they are finally going Rwanda. We
showed why we have reached this stage."
"We have played Wiyeta before,
we know their game and we are going for the title," said Shikanga.
Elsewhere ten times National
Champions Wiyeta beat their arch rivals Dagoretti Mixed 3-1 on post match
penalties to sail through to their ninth successive final.
The thrilling clash saw Wiyeta have
the last laugh after a 2-2 draw after the extra time.
The semi-final was a repeat of last
year's final where The Bees won by the same margin after a 1-1 draw in the
normal time.
Head coach Edgar Manyara praised his
charges for their orgasmic performance to book a place to Rwanda.
"We are happy for the win, my
girls showed their fighting spirit after going down earlier on. It was a tough
match but we cooled down our nerves to take it home."
"We will be going for our 11th title tomorrow and we will give it all," noted Manyara.
The final showdown will be staged on
Saturday at Bukhungu Stadium.
