High School rugby head coach Eliud Okwemba says they are anticipating tough
competition when the county games begins Tuesday, at the Musingu High School in
Kakamega county.
Koyonzo
who are the defending champions are so far unbeaten in the sub-county level but
the coach is wary of the level other teams in the county have raised hence the
need to take every game as a final.
“We
are well prepared for the games; we have
a stronger team than last year’s so we expect to have good results as we head
in to the county games which are going to be very competitive,” said Okwemba.
Koyonzo are in the same pool as host Musingu, and
Mukumu High School, teams the head coach says will be a hard nut to crack but
believes with proper preparation they will conquer and retain the title they
have won for the past three years.
“Teams in the region have really improved this
year,” he explained. “Most teams have players who have been together for some
time hence having continuation for the project. Every game to us will be like a
final because as defending champions teams have trained to beat us so we are
not taking any chances ,”added Okwemba.
The
veteran tactician went on to warn the national sevens team Shujaa to avoid the
simple mistakes that cost the team in Vancouver, ahead of the Hong Kong Sevens.
“Shuja
is a very good team that has a bright future, what happened in Canada was a
result of simple mistakes at key moment during the games that should be avoided
if we’re to have a successful outing in Hong Kong,” stated the head coach.
Shujaa are in Pool C alongside Great Britain, France
and Spain.
