Rugby director Odera roots for the support of community clubs

Kenya Rugby Union's director of rugby Paul Odera has
reiterated the Union’s intention and resolve to support community clubs saying
they are the “heart and soul” of Kenyan rugby.
Speaking during Mwamba RFC’s fund drive, the newly
appointed Odera says for the sport to continue to grow, community clubs must be
supported as they are the gateway to talent spotting and growth.
“As Kenya Rugby Union, we are here to support
community clubs. Community is where rugby is, they are the heart and soul of
Kenyan rugby and that is something the KRU is focused on supporting.”
Odera spoke with admiration for Mwamba who he termed
as the pioneer community club in Kenya that has greatly contributed to the
growth and success of Kenyan rugby.
“Mwamba is
the first indigenous club, it’s the first club formed by people, from Mean
Machine, and it has gone from strength to strength and even amidst challenges
it’s a club that has the heart and soul of Kenya.”
Mwamba has produced the crème de la crème in the
sport boasting of the likes of Collins Injera- arguably Kenya’s best rugby
talent, Humphrey Khayange, Lavin Asego among many others.
