Rugby clubs demand financial transparency from KRU

During a press conference held at the RFUEA Grounds on Friday morning, representatives from Moi University Arsonists RFC, Ngong Warriors Rugby Club, and Meru Rugby Football Club called out the KRU for its lack of transparency.
Victor Wachira, Chairman of Ngong Warriors, accused the Union of violating its constitutional mandate by failing to respond to formal requests to inspect its books of accounts.
“Our requests were professional, timely, and grounded in Clause 10.22.4 of the KRU Constitution,” Wachira stated.
“To date, there has been no formal response. This silence is unacceptable and appears to be a deliberate attempt to block legitimate oversight.”
The calls for financial transparency follow a turbulent Special General Meeting (SGM) held on May 30, during which a motion of no confidence was passed against then-KRU chair Sasha Mutai, who subsequently resigned.
According to the clubs, the Auditor’s Report attached to the financials included a disclaimer concerning the national competition budget, raising red flags over possible mismanagement.
The coalition has given the KRU CEO until Wednesday, July 9, to comply with their request and issue written responses to each club.
“This is not a rebellion. It is a rescue mission,” Wachira emphasised.
“The Union has been riddled with boardroom wrangles, accusations of corruption, and a marked decline in national team performance. We are demanding accountability to restore confidence in the sport.”
