Rising Stars captain Amos Wanjala earns Harambee Stars first call-up
Wanjala impressed during last month’s Cecafa U20 in Tanzania as he helped the Rising Stars punch a ticket to the junior AFCON set for South Africa in January.
The 23-man squad will depart Nairobi on November 11 for South Africa where they will face Zimbabwe on November 15 at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane and wind up the qualification process against Namibia four days later, at the same venue.
Kenya currently sits third in Group J with four points, four adrift of second-placed Zimbabwe.
Stars must claim victories in the two matches if they are to join already qualified Cameroon in the 2025 AFCON finals to be held in Morocco.
Kenya’s hopes to return to the AFCON suffered a huge blow last month following a twin defeat by Cameroon.
The five-time champions edged Stars 4-1 in the first leg in Yaounde before completing a double in the second leg with a 1-0 win in Kampala, Uganda.
