Reinstating FKF is 'step in the right direction', says Leopards official
AFC
Leopards Team Manager Albert Wesonga has applauded Youth Affairs, Sports and
Arts Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba for reinstating FKF back to office noting
'it's a step in the right direction'.
Wesonga’s
sentiments come barely days after Namwamba held a meeting with FKF officials
led by its president Nick Mwendwa in an attempt to find a common ground towards
the lifting of football sanction slapped on Kenya by Fifa.
The
former Nakumatt FC chief executive officer acknowledged the move will inject
hope to players across the country.
“I can say that the announcement by the Sports
CS to reinstate the FKF office is something to be happy about, not just me, but
the whole family of football stakeholders.
It
is a sign of hope and expectations to our players who have been hit hard
because of the ban from Fifa,” said Wesonga.
Wesonga
added that Kenyan fans have also missed a lot local football since Fifa sanctioned
Kenya in February this year citing government interference.
“When Kenyan fans synchronize this in their
mind, it makes them happy and full of belonging (that their football is on its
way back),”he said, “ Fans will therefore, like coaches, and players, wait for the exact date when the
league will start so as to align ourselves with what is lying ahead.”
The
ban had thrown the FKF-PL in a state of uncertainty with the clubs resolving
not to participate in non-recognized league.
