Ragot: Our aim is to curb drug abuse through boxing

According to Ongata Rongai Boxing Club coach Michael Ragot, their aim is to combat drug abuse among youths during the long holiday as well as sharpen their ability to represent the clubs at the national level.
"The holiday is long, and we would like to provide a leisure activity for them, and through this friendly training, we will educate them on drug abuse, which is rampant among the youth."
Mukuru’s coach, Benson Gicharu says the club has between 30 and 40 boxers, but the number of those who will take part in the bouts will depend on the various weight categories that will be provided by the Ongata Rongai Boxing Club.
Winners of the various categories will be awarded trophies. The coaches have also expressed hopes of getting sponsors to award all the boxers a token.
Gicharu has also revealed plans to raise funds to help finance a section of boxers whom the club caters for through a boxing match that will be held on November 25 in Nairobi.
"We are from the slum and face a number of challenges. We pay fees and rent for some of our boxers. We are planning on organizing this match so that we have funds to support these upcoming boxers."
