Rachier: Singida haven't contacted Gor over "claimed" Rooney transfer
Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier has dismissed reports linking Rooney Onyango with a move to Tanzanian side Singida SC.
According to Rachier, neither Rooney nor the club in question has
contacted his office over the same.
‘’I’m not aware of any deal between Rooney and Singida. Neither Rooney
nor Singida has contacted my office in regard to any transfer deal,’’ said
Rachier
The long serving chairman said he would be interested to know if there
has been any underground deal, but so far he says the club is clean from any
claims.
He has in the meantime dismissed claims that Singida had paid Gor Mahia
transfer fees for the defender and that the club is now demanding a refund
after the aborted move.
Earlier this week, reports had it that Singida was on Gor Mahia’s neck
to refund the money they had paid after Rooney declined the move to Tanzania.
‘’This is news to me. We have not received any money from Singida and
allegations that we are under pressure to return their money is malicious,’’ clarified
Rachier.
Rachier has indicated that as a club, they would always wish to see
their players prosper and they cannot block any move to any other club upon
agreement. In the case of Rooney, the chairman has, however, distanced the club
from any dealings.
‘’We have had good players before and they have left for greener
pastures. Any team interested in Gor Mahia players need to follow the correct
procedure for the transfers to be initiated,’’ added Rachier.
Onyango has been outstanding in the Gor Mahia defence ever since joining
from Wazito FC, now Muhoroni Youth in 2022 and has since been a cog in the club’s
defence.
Under the Brazilian coach Martins Neiva, Onyango was preferred as a
winger, something that did not go well with him.
Neiva insisted on Onyango playing upfront, which resulted in regular
disciplinary actions against the player whenever he felt uncomfortable playing
upfront.
Onyango made his debut in the National team when he featured in a
friendly match against Russia in Turkey. He has since retained his position in
the national team.
Meanwhile, Rachier has said they have no immediate plans of recruiting
any new player in the January window. The chairman says they will only do that at the advice of the
technical bench should there be need in the future.
“We have no immediate plans of releasing our players. The technical
bench will, however, advise us on the way forward in the future.’’
Gor Mahia sit third on the log behind leaders KCB who are commanding the
log with 27 points, even as Gor has a match at hand.
