Bungoma Queens head coach Godfrey Mabonga has expressed satisfaction with the fifth-place position his charges secured in the ended 2024/25 Kenya Women Premier League campaign.
According to Mabonga, finishing fifth is a major step forward,
as last year, they finished second from bottom. He termed the top five finish “a
step towards the right direction” despite a host of setbacks bedeviling the
club.
Mabonga noted that the club's main challenge was the lack of
funds to sign quality players, who could have helped them secure a better position.
"Lack of funds to reinforce the squad was our greatest
challenge. This made us rely on the same players for the whole season. It makes
it difficult for the team to compete with financially stable teams like Kenya
Police Bullets or even Vihiga Queens," Mabonga said.
He also noted that Bungoma Queens would have finished in a
better position but the girls grew weary because of a lean squad.
"We started the season very well but the girls grew
weary as the season progressed because the squad was lean. They could not maintain
the consistency," Mabonga added.
Bungoma Queens finished the league in fifth place with 32
points, 14 behind league champions, Kenya Police Bullets.
