Kibera Soccer Ladies head coach David Vijago
has termed their 3-0 win over Kisped Queens on Sunday, April 13, a morale booster as they aim to dethrone Police Bullets from the helm of the FKF Women’s Premier
League this season.
Medina Abubakar emerged the hero as she
scored a hat trick to hand her side maximum points, which cemented their
supremacy at the apex of the league with 41 points, two ahead of second-placed
Bullets, as Ulinzi Starlets wrapped up the top three with 36 points in that
order.
Speaking to Citizen Digital,
Vijago, who doubles up as Junior Starlets assistant coach, hailed her charges
for the good fight as he looks forward to winning three remaining fixtures before
they are crowned new champions.
“I was very happy for the win, and sincerely
it has boosted our morale in winning the title this season.
“It has been our dream to win the league, and
I believe this will be our season.
“We only need to win the remaining three
matches, and I’m sure nothing will stop us from achieving that.”
Vijago, however, admitted to having been rocked
by fresh injuries in his squad, although he remained hopeful that those who picked up knocks will be back in action soon.
“We have some injuries in the squad, but I’m
happy that all injured players are recuperating well, and I’m hoping to see them
on the pitch soon.
“The injured players include forward Maria
Ambila, Esnas Kisia, Rebecca, and Joyce Okuku .
“We only have 17 players in the entire squad,
and if many of them get injured, then it’s a big blow to us. All in all, we will
continue fighting .”
In other Sunday results, defending champions
Kenya Police Bullets thrashed Kisumu All Starlets 7-0 at Kenya School of
Government in Kabete as coast representatives Mombasa Olympic FC defeated
Bungoma Queens 3-1 in Makande Primary School.
On Saturday, April 12, Ulinzi Starlets edged
Bunyore Starlets 3-0 at Ulinzi Sports Complex as Zetech Sparks fell 3-2 in the
hands of Trinity Starlets at Zetech University, Mang’u Campus.
