University of
Nairobi basketball team UON Terror head coach Eugine Kalman is over the moon
after a hard-fought victory against giants Ulinzi Warriors over the weekend.
The students
hammered the soldiers 68-65 at the Nyayo Gymnasium, Nairobi, in the Kenya
National Men’s Basketball Premier League match.
“We have had
three difficult games against three of the best teams in Kenya; we started with
Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), then defending champions Nairobi City Thunder, and
now Ulinzi Warriors.
"We are
glad we got the win because we were not just there in the last two games; it
was a massive victory for us, and we take the win proudly,” Kalman said.
On his side,
Ulinzi Warriors head coach Bernard Mufutu pointed out areas they failed to
utilize, hence losing the match.
“It was not a
good performance from my boys; there were too many mistakes and turnovers, and
we failed to score our free throws.
"We just didn't do
what we were supposed to do right. The mental aspect of the players should be
right all the time; we can't just rise to the occasion in the last quarter; it
has to be from the start,” Mufuti said.
In their weekend
encounter, Ulinzi started off well, winning the first quarter 20-18, before Terror
won the second 17-12 to force a 35-32 at the break.
After the interval,
Terror extended their ruthless form, winning the third quarter 21:13 before
holding out for a clutch 65-68 win at the final buzzer.
Terror’s quartet,
Jacob Aleu, Niva Mbogani, Ryan Onyango, and Powell Hargos, netted double-digit
points, scoring 17, 16, 15, and 10, respectively, while Elisha Odhiambo and
Peter Odhiambo scored 16 and 15 points, respectively, for the soldiers.
