Three Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) member clubs, Moi University Arsonists RFC, Ngong Warriors RFC, and Meru RFC have jointly demanded access to the Union’s books of accounts, citing a lack of transparency and governance accountability.
The clubs issued their ultimatum during a joint press conference held Friday at RFUEA Grounds, where they warned of further action if the KRU CEO fails to respond by Wednesday, July 9.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Ngong Warriors chairman Victor Wachira said the clubs had formally written to the union a per the KRU Constitution, which grants member clubs the right to inspect the Union’s financial records.
Their request followed the May 30 special general meeting, where a motion of no confidence led to the resignation of Chairman Sasha and the subsequent annual general meeting that adopted financial reports flagged by auditors.
"The auditor's report shared contained a disclaimer on the national competitions, and that raised red flags."
"We sent letters on different dates last week, and despite acknowledgment by the KRU Secretariat, we have received no formal response.
The three sides insisted that their actions are not political but grounded in constitutional rights.
They cited persistent boardroom wrangles, allegations of corruption, declining national team performances, and worsening player welfare as indicators of mismanagement within the union.
Adding to the concern was KU Blak Blad player Derick Masese, who used the platform to criticize the selection criteria for the national team.
"What criteria does the union use to select the national team?, do you have to be in specific team to earn a call up?", he paused.
"There is no reward for hard work. The officials do not care about player welfare. Anyone who speaks up is quickly labeled as rebellious.”
The sides have vowed to reconvene and explore further action should the union continue to ignore their demands.
