The fourth edition of the Tinderet Barng'etuny Mountain Run is
set to take place on January 18, 2025, in Nandi County, with over 2,000
athletes expected to participate.
According to the event’s founder, Eric Barng'etuny, preparations
for the highly anticipated race are well underway.
“So far, we have registered about 600 athletes online. This
year, we are offering better prizes than last year to motivate more competitors
and elevate the level of competition.”
The event has grown into a significant platform for nurturing
young talent in athletics.
“This race has been instrumental for our region and the entire
country. It encourages the younger generation to pursue athletics, which can
open doors for them to compete internationally,” underscored Barng'etuny.
He further noted that the event serves as a stepping stone for
local athletes aiming to qualify for prestigious global competitions.
“The World Mountain Running Championships, scheduled to take
place in Spain later this year, is one such opportunity for our athletes to
shine,” he added.
With its picturesque landscape and challenging terrain, Nandi
County provides an ideal backdrop for the mountain run, attracting both elite
and upcoming athletes.
The event not only promotes athletics but also fosters tourism
and community engagement within the region.
As the January date approaches, excitement continues to build,
with more participants expected to sign up.
Organisers are optimistic that this year’s edition will set new
benchmarks for participation and competition, cementing the Tinderet Barng'etuny
Mountain Run as a cornerstone of Kenya’s athletics calendar.
The race underscores the region's rich tradition in producing
world-class runners and its commitment to inspiring the next generation of
champions.
