Preparations on course for 2025 WRC Safari Rally Championships, assures CS Mvurya
The World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally and the
government, through the Ministry of Sports Culture and Heritage, have given preparations
for the 2025 Safari Rally thumps up ahead of the much-anticipated event in the
last week of March.
According to WRC Safari Rally Kenya Chief Executive Officer
Charles Gacheru, the championship will have a new shakedown route at the Sleeping
Warrior Stage, with the ceremonial start also relocating to City Hall from KICC
in an attempt to give Kenyans a chance to witness the championship from the
first step.
This year’s edition will also have two new stages, with
Morandat Farm included in the circuit as Kenya gears up for the world
showpiece.
"At camp Moran near Sleeping Warrior, there will be our
new shakedown, and we have also spoken to the Nairobi governor. We want our
flag off done outside his office so that Kenyans from all walks can parade and
have the feeling of the rally", explained Gacheru.
"We wish to call on all Kenyans, east Africa, and the
whole world to attend the rally and experience our magical Kenya." He added.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya assured the government
support to improve the preparations and solve local challenges in terms of
employment during the championship.
Mvurya has also emphasized staging a world-class event as it
will continue to place Kenya on the world map in both sports and tourism.
"We are taking an all-government approach to make sure
that this event continues painting our country's best image, and we will work
with local leaders to make sure that the locals also benefit at the end of the
day," said Mvurya.
After the Monte Carlo edition, which was hosted on January 23-26, the Championship will head to Sweden in February before Kenya plays host from 20-23 March 2025.
