Police missiles flatten Gor Mahia at Sacco Stadium, end unbeaten run
Kenya Police FC handed Gor Mahia a bitter 3-1 dose at the
Sacco Stadium in Nairobi to end the latter’s unbeaten run in the league.
The build-up was clouded by uproar from the Gor Mahia fans
questioning the home side’s decision to increase the ticket fee tenfold.
On the pitch Gor were quickest off the blocks, netting the opening goal through midfield maestro Austin Odhiambo who made the most of a loose ball in the penalty area and drilled past the goal keeper to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
However the hosts came back from the break looking energized
and eager to grab an equalizer, launching a series of attacks but Gor’s defense
stood firm to thwart them, but only for a limited period.
Police breached the defence in the 59th minute after a neat
exchange of passes which opened up the rearguard and David Okoth found the chance
to slot it home.
Tito Okello gave the hosts a second goal in the 74th minute
with a brilliant curl outside the penalty area before completing his brace, giving
the law enforcers a 3-1 lead after latching onto a Francis Kahata’s cross.
This win took Police to third in the league standings while
Gor Mahia retain their top spot despite the loss.
