Police Bullets arrest Tanzania's Simba Queens to reach final of CAF Champions League Cecafa qualifiers

Lucy Kwekwe, Diana Wacera and Rebecca Okwaro were on target as Police Bullets FC sunk holders Tanzania's Simba Queens 3-2, in their Cecafa Women’s Champions League qualifiers at the Abebe Bikila Stadium in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Monday.

Simba captain Corazone Aquino, a Harambee Starlets midfielder, grabbed a brace for the holders, but would not save the Cecafa Women Club Championship from the ruthless bullets.

Bullets were facing a team that sailed to the semis unbeaten and with a high scoring power of 10 goals, conceding only two.

The win sent Police to the final of the Championship, where they will face either Kawempe Muslim of Uganda or CBE of Ethiopia, who are in the second semi finals.

The winner of the Championship will qualify for the CAF Champions League, a slot Police are gunning for, according to Police FC Executive Chairman SAIG Nyale Munga.

"This win underlines our thirst for regional glory which is unstoppable. We are now a powerhouse in the region. The march continues, towards more..." said Nyale.

Kwekwe gave the law enforcers the lead in the 29th minute, capitalising on a mistake by the opponent’s keeper to open the scores.

But Simba would level matters soon after through Aquino, whose cool finish from a cross across the goal beat keeper Agneta Kundu, despite fully stretching to stop it.

Aquino then put Simba in front, calmly controlling the ball just outside the box after beating her marker to slot it home for the second.

However, Police fought even harder and in the 60th minute restored parity courtesy of Diana Wacera's powerful header, connecting Lydia Akoth’s freekick from the left channel.

With only eight minutes remaining, the Beldine Odemba-coached Kenyan champions grabbed the winner, with Okwaro tapping in from Wacera’s pass.

Police Bullets' win comes a day after their male counterparts also stormed to CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary stage, after beating hosts Ethiopian Coffee 0-1 in Addis Ababa.
