Pipeline stretch Prisons to a five-set thriller as KVF serves off
The Oilers easily won the first set in 25-14 before Prisons regrouped to claim a 27-25 victory in the second set and then Pipeline claimed a 25-22 as the Wardresses restored parity again 25-23 in what was a never-say-die moment for both teams.
The two sides went toe-to-toe in the decider set with Pipeline emerging winners with 18-16 to hand new coach Geoffrey Omondi his first win after landing at the Embakasi-based club last month.
In other women’s matches, DCI spanked Young Spikers 3-0 sets while KDF defeated Vihiga Volleyball Team 3-0 sets.
In the men’s contest, Kenya Prisons got their second consecutive defence of the Men’s League title off to a flying start following a 3-0 sets win over Kenya Army.
The warders easily saw off the soldiers in 25-22, 25-15 and 25-14 to throw down the gauntlet.
They next face Trailblazers tomorrow while Kenya Army play AP Kenya in their second fixture of the first leg.
At the same venue, KAPU also laid the marker as they edged Base Yetu 3-0 sets in the opening fixture of the men’s league.
KDF Elisha Aliwa praised his charges for a strong start after a straight sets win over Equity (25-21, 25-15, and 29-27).
“We’re focusing on teamwork, communication, and rigorous training to claim the top spot.”
The top eight teams at the end of the regular season will advance to the end of the season play-offs.
Nyeri County volleyball chairman Jacob Munene celebrated the league's return as a fresh start for the sport locally.
“This is an opportunity to reignite the fierce volleyball spirit in Nyeri that has been dormant for the last 20 years," Munene remarked.
