Owino: Strathmore Swords not there yet despite win over Storms

The coach has cited defensive sluggishness as one of the problems they must work on as they prepare for games ahead.

Owino knows the outcome could have been different had they faced fierce opposition, hence the need to correct the mistakes he saw.

"Still not good enough, the opposition was a bit weak. We will not be very comfortable and tell ourselves we won by 50 points. There are a lot of mistakes we're making, we allowed them to score 39 points.

"We need to work on our defense and be more efficient on the offense as well. We're missing very many baskets, many  turnovers as well," assessed Owino.

A  revered figure of Posta's 1992 class, the  'Athletic Mailmen', Owino lamented his charges were below the season's target in each match, of holding their opponents to less than 10 points for each quarter.

"When you have a big lead you tend to relax mentally, so I told them to keep fighting, keep focusing - because each quarter we have a target of scoring at least  20 points.

"So, regardless of the opponent , we try to reach our target, so we try to score and restrict our opponents to single digits in each quarter," further explained Owino.

His opposite number Abel Nson felt their opponents were class above them, but hopes they can use the pain to launch their redemption in their next fixture.
