Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein
Mohammed Friday presided over the graduation of 51 General Service Unit (GSU) officers who
successfully completed a three-day CAF Safe Stadia Initiative training
programme.
The event was held at the National Police Service
Campus B, a key site in Kenya’s growing push to enhance match-day security and
event preparedness.
This milestone comes just a week after Sports
Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya announced that security personnel across the
region would undergo professional training ahead of the 2025 African Nations
Championship (CHAN), which Kenya will co-host alongside Tanzania and Uganda.
Speaking during the graduation, Chief Instructor at
the National Police Service Campus B, Mumo Musyoka, emphasized the
institution's readiness to support such initiatives:
“We are going to give maximum cooperation, and if we
get another opportunity to train more officers, we will do so.”
FKF President Hussein Mohammed, visibly moved,
highlighted the long journey toward this kind of partnership.
“For 21 years, I have been looking for this
collaboration. These security enforcers are not just here for safety; they are
coming to help FKF in crowd control, football management, and ultimately in
commercializing the sport,” he said.
The CAF Safe Stadia Initiative aims to standardize
stadium safety protocols across Africa, ensuring better coordination between
football authorities and law enforcement. With CHAN 2025 looming, the training
is seen as a critical step in ensuring Kenya is ready to host a safe and
successful continental tournament.
As more officers receive specialized training, the
country edges closer to meeting international safety standards, reinforcing the
role of security in the broader development of Kenyan football.
