Over 10,000 athletes are set to challenge for glory at this year’s Chepsaita Cross Country. This will be the second edition of the event.

According to Central Rift Athletics Kenya chairman Abraham Mutai, final touches are being put in place at the Chepkemel in Turbo, the venue of the race.

Speaking during the LOC meeting at the venue, Mutai said 90 per cent of the course is ready.

He said safety issues and security of spectators are also considered during the preparations.

"All is going well as far as preparations are concerned, we have a registration of over 10,000 athletes and as from next month we are moving here for proper planning," said Mutai.

Executive member and youth development chairman at Athletics Kenya Barnabas Korir said 70 per cent of the slots will be given to local athletes.

"Even though it's a world event, so far we have confirmation of participation from top range athletes from Ethiopia, Morocco, Uganda and Tanzania," noted Korir.

He said AK is working closely with ADAK and AIU in sensitising and monitoring athletes and coaches to avert cases of doping.
