Violence once again reared its ugly head leaving one fan
injured as Shabana, aggrieved by the 0-1 home defeat to visiting Muhoroni Youth
in a Kenyan Premier League match staged Saturday at the Raila Odinga Stadium in
Homa Bay Town, did not take the loss in their strides.
The violence started when supporters of Shabana began hurling water
bottles onto the pitch when their team failed to score.
Shabana have had a poor ride in the KPL games and it seems
the purple patch is taking a toll on their strained fans. In 17 matches they have
managed just 3 wins, 5 draws, and 9 defeats.
And on Saturday at the Raila Odinga Stadium, unable to take
the bitter dose, they demanded answers from the playing unit and club the
club officials on why they should continue traveling from Kisii to Homa Bay to
watch games which they lose at every turn.
Drama started after Muhoroni Youth scored the only goal of
the match and the celebrations of the visiting team were soon met by missiles –
in the form of water bottles- at the tail end of the contest.
At the last whistle, the fans became more charged and
started confronting their opponents as both sets of fans exchanged missiles –
stones coming in handy yet the police stayed back and watched the two groups
fight.
It took the intervention of county enforcement officers to
drive out rowdy fans who were trying to vandalize seats at the stadium as the
injured was rushed to Homa Bay Teaching and Referral Hospital.
City Stars 3-0 City Stars
Shabana 0-1 Muhoroni Youth
Police 3 -0 Kakamega Homeboyz
Posta Rangers 0-1 Gor Mahia
