Onana tips Kenya to give Cameroon headache in Afcon qualifiers

Harambee Stars jointly top Group ‘J’ on four points same with Cameroon who have inferior goal difference after the first two matches, and Onana wants the five-time champions to be wary of a Kenyan side "with an extreme amount of talent".

The two teams meet on October 7 with the reverse fixture set for a week later.

“Kenya is the only team in our group that is giving us competition but I hope we will make it to Morocco. The match against Zimbabwe was a little bit hard but I’m happy we came out with a point.”

Onana,28, spoke on Tuesday at the Mandela National Stadium in Namboole, Uganda after the Indomitable Lions played out to a barren draw against Zimbabwe.

Harambee Stars got their qualifying campaign back on track the same day with a 2-1 win over Namibia in South Africa as John Avire and Duke Abuya scored one goal apiece for the important win.

Kenya, who are seeking a return to the continental scene for the first time since 2019, had blanked in the opening fixture following a 0-0 draw against Zimbabwe in Uganda.

Harambee Stars head coach Engin Firat on Tuesday fired warning shots to Cameroon, saying “with a full squad it will not be nice for Cameroon.”

Captain Michael Olunga sat out of the two matches due to injury and his return will be a massive shot on arm for Firat in the Cameroon due.
