Omanyala upbeat about Paris 2024 Olympic Games medal prospects
Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala is upbeat about
his medal prospects in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, despite falling short of
the finals in the last edition held in Tokyo, Japan, in 2021.
Speaking yesterday during his unveiling as the official
ambassador of Toyota CFAO Motors Kenya
Omanyala said he will use his trailblazing achievements from Tokyo to hunt for
Kenya’s first ever medal in the 100-meter race.
“Well, we go into this year’s Olympic games in a different
situation from the last edition in Tokyo, where I had to participate in many
competitions to secure the qualifying time.
“I feel things are better this time and I am sure with
the kind of trajectory I have now, it will be possible to excel in Paris.”
Omanyala is also keen to build on his enviable success
last season to have a stellar 2024, having already bagged the Meeting de Paris
Indoor title on a record 6.51 last month, shattering the national record he had
set a week earlier at the Eline Indoor Track Miramas Meet in France by 0.1
seconds.
“The partners have
played a critical role in having Team Kenya ready for the events (the WRC championships).
and the Olympic Games.
“Personally, I am
looking forward to a great season. My objective is to build on what I have built
in the past seasons to have an excellent one this term.”
Omanyala is
among the big names in Kenya’s legion to the Paris 2024 Olympic games that will
be gunning for Kenya’s maiden medal in the short races.
