Omanyala to face in-form Simbine in Monaco
Commonwealth champion Ferdinand Omanyala will take on his South
African rival Akani Simbine in the men’s 100m race in the Monaco Diamond League
on Friday.
Simbine is in blistering form having grabbed his second
Diamond League victory in a row last weekend when he clocked 9.97 seconds to
win in Silesia.
His performance handed the reigning world champion Fred
Kerley his first defeat of the season as the American took second place after a
close finish.
Omanyala is fastest in the field both in terms of personal
best (9.77seconds) and season’s best (9.84) and the Kenyan stands third in this
season’s Diamond League standings.
Kerley, who beat Omanyala at the Florence Diamond League on
July 2 in Italy, will not be on the line-up in Monaco.
But Botswana’s Under-20 100m champion Letsile Tebogo and
Jamaican Ackeem Blake will be in the field.
Omanyala is yet to win any Diamond League race but has put up
impressive displays in Rabat, Florence, and Paris.
