Omanyala, Tebogo to face off at KipKeino Classic

Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala will face fierce competition in his bid to defend his KipKeino Classic title after Botswana sprinter Letsile Tebogo confirmed his intent to better the former’s African record in this year’s edition slated for April 20at Nyayo National Stadium.

The world’s ninth-fastest man in history clocked 9.77 seconds on September 18 in the 2021 KipKeino Classic in Nairobi to shatter South African Akani Simbine's 9.85 seconds he had set on July 6 the same year at the Gyulai István Memorial World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meet in Székesfehérvár, Hungary. 

Tebogo who holds the world Under-20 200 metres and 100 meters records will feature in both categories at this years Nairobi meet.  

The Botswana champion, has been on a record-breaking spree, having clocked a personal best of 44.29 in 400m in Pretoria just over a week ago.


Moreover, he shattered the 300m world record in February, after clocking 30.69 at the Simbine Curro Classic.

In a titanic battle, the two greats will face off in the 100m race, with Omanyala’s coach Geoffrey Kimani insisting on the sprinter's focus to better his record.
