Omanyala breaks own national record at Mondeville Meet
Commonwealth Games 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala smashed
the 60m indoor national record at the Mondeville Indoor Tour - Silver meeting on
Wednesday night in France.
Omanyala clocked 6.55 seconds to lower his own national
record of 6.57 seconds which he set last year in Lievin also in the European
nation.
Arthur Cisse of Ivory Coast finished second in 6.59 seconds
with Charles Dobson of Great Britain settling for third in 6.61 seconds.
It was Omanyala’s second race of the season at the indoor
series after he had secured a second-place finish at the bronze meeting in
Miramas meet last week.
“I got a good start and I executed the race without any
pressure. I am happy with the national record. I am still hoping to go under
6.55 but I can say I have achieved my target this season and hopefully I can
still go faster,” Omanyala said in the post-race interview.
He added. “I am positive the indoor meetings will help me in
my preparations for the 10om race.”
The African record holder will remain in France as he is
still set to compete at the Paris and Lievin legs of the World Indoor Tour
silver and gold respectively.
Elsewhere, Commonwealth Games 800m champion Mary Moraa
clocked two minutes,1.51 seconds to finish fourth at Orlen Cup indoor meet also
held Wednesday in Poland while Collins
Kipruto finished second in the men’s race.
