Former AFC Leopards midfielder Charles Okwemba has castigated head coach Tomas Trucha for benching experienced players in the 1-0 loss to Posta Rangers in the FKF-PL match at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos on Sunday.
Defensive
midfielder Kayci Odhiambo, goal poachers Victor Omune and Rwandese Arthur
Gitego missed out in the starting eleven with Okwemba claiming that Ingwe would
have won had the tro started.
“It goes
without saying that football deserves continuity or consistency and every coach
must have his/ her starting eleven.
In our
first match (against Mathare United) all the experienced players like Omune
(Victor), Miheso (Clifton), Gitego (Arthur) and Opiyo (Levis) were in the
starting eleven.
I think
they have also regretted,” he said. “Making these changes on the starting
eleven by leaving out these players.”
The
12-time league champions thrashed Mathare United 4-0 in their season opener but
were condemned to a first defeat of the term, at the Machakos stadium.
“Of
course it’s not acceptable for sure. Where Leopards are coming from and the
ambitions this team has, we must know that we are fighting for a league title
to end the long drought and so losing our second match of the season is not
good,” Okwemba observed.
The
former Leopards midfielder has reminded the players, coaching staff and
officials on the need to end the title drought.
“I think
we have exhausted excuses for not winning titles. It’s time to start acting and
showing the fruits rather than just talking about winning them.
It
should be a message to our players, coaching staff and the officials that we
are not a team that should finish a season trophy-less,” Okwemba roared.
Leopards
have dropped from top to a fifth position after round two of matches, a point
behind leaders KCB, Kariobangi Sharks, Bandari FC and Posta Rangers who both
are on four points.
