Former
Kenyan international Charles Okwemba believes Saturday's top of the table
clash between Tusker FC and Police FC will play a crucial role in
deciding who will be the champion at the end of the season.
Speaking
to Citizen Digital on Thursday, Okwemba said both teams possess high quality
players and experienced technical bench hence making the clash an exciting one
to watch.
While Gor are the defending champions with rich history in
the league, Okwemba feels the fine run Police have had this season since the
arrival of coach Ndayiragije Etienne is not to be ignored.
“Those
two teams have very good and quality players in their squad they are players
who are experienced and understand the league very well that is why they are
top of the table it will be a very exciting clash that will make a lot of
difference in the title race,” said Okwemba
Last
season, Police won the FKF Cup and represented the country in the African
Confederations Cup, their biggest ever achievement.
Despite
their early exit, Okwemba said the experience they gathered during the
competition has played a huge role in solidifying the team.
“It a
good tournament to participate in players and the technical bench
get so good experience and exposure that adds value to
their quality and that has contributed a lot to police being where
they are today,” added Okwemba
The
former midfield maestro also lauded Ndayiragije who took over from Salim Babu earlier
this season, saying he has contributed big time in the club being at the top of
the league.
“His
experience and understanding of the game is top notch. He has brought calmness
in the team, players have adapted to his philosophy well and I think he is
doing a very good job so far."
Police have 37 points at the top of the table after 19
matches, while Gor have 31, with a game in hand - at third.
Tusker FC are level on points with Police, but the latter
have a better goal-difference of plus 14.
