Okello hits brace as Police down Sofapaka
Police FC staged a remarkable comeback, overturning a 1-0
deficit to secure a commanding 2-1 win against Sofapaka FC at the Police Sacco
Stadium on Saturday, courtesy of a brace from Tito Okelo.
Batoto Ba Mungu grabbed an early lead in the 16th minute when Thomas Karaire's well-executed curling shot struck the post before finding the net.
Despite going behind, Sofapaka dictated the game's tempo, with seasoned midfielder Humphrey Mieno controlling the midfield and supplying long balls to their speedy wingers.
The game took a turn when Rodgers Kipkemboi fouled Duncan Okoth in the box. Tito Okello equalised for the administrators, and then a handball by Darius Msagha late in the second half allowed the South Sudanese international to score his second goal of the match and his 12th in the current campaign.
Police FC's head goalkeeping coach, Iddi Abdul, praised both teams for their outstanding performance, brushing off the controversy surrounding the two penalties.
"I believe it was an excellent display from teams, showcasing pace and technical prowess. Despite trailing, we attacked with determination and ultimately emerged victorious," Abdul remarked.
Regarding the penalties, he continued: "Those were two clear penalties, as you saw. There's no doubt about it. We aimed to control the game through possession, and we're pleased with the win."
Zedekiah 'Zico' Otieno, the losing coach, remained reserved about the penalties. "I think it's unfair to comment on the penalties for now. I'll review the tape and then perhaps I can provide some insight," Zico shared.
"We always accept any result with dignity and respect. Now, we'll go back to the drawing board and plan for the next fixture, which incidentally is against Police again," he added.
Police are now second in the log with 51 points, nine points behind league leaders Gor Mahia.
