Oilers, Nondies into Enterprise Cup semis after walkovers
Menengai Oilers and Nondescripts RFC have already booked their slots in
this year’s Enterprise Cup semi-finals without kicking a ball.
This is after their respective opponents, Homeboyz and South Coast
Pirates confirmed their unavailability for the fixtures.
Oilers were set to battle Homeboyz RFC at the refinery in Nakuru but
the Deejayz won’t make the short journey to Nakuru as
confirmed by Oilers Assistant Coach Lawi Buyachi
“It’s been an amazing build up towards the tail end of the season now we
are approaching match day eight in the Kenya cup and entering a crucial stage
in the Enterprise Cup; the quarters.
“It's just unfortunate that Homeboyz RFC couldn’t manage to travel down to
Nakuru; we had prepared well and for us it's about building blocks towards the
season finale,” Buyachi said.
Oilers will now face Nondies in the semifinal, after South Coast Pirates
also confirmed they will not honour the fixture against Nondescripts.
“Enterprise cup is the oldest team competition in the country, not only
in the country but in the region and it brings something different compared to
Kenya cup. So, ours is just to remain the same, approach the games the same
way, and prepare for every game until the final.
“We play Nondies who have it to the semis just like us (after a walk
over). It will be a good encounter, they were here (in Nakuru) last weekend for
the Kenya cup and it was a tight encounter, so we look forward to that. Our
focus remains the same, going for all trophies and we will approach it just
like a final.”
Pirates had gotten to the Enterprise cup quarter finals after securing a
walkover against Kisumu RFC who they had been paired with in the Pre-quarter
final round.
