Kenya Police Bullets CEO Chris Oguso has passionately lauded the
team’s technical bench for delivering the Kenya Women’s Premier League trophy
for the law enforcers’ at their first attempt.
Oguso says the Nairobi-based club has stunned the management for
lifting this year’s KWPL trophy unbeaten despite being debutants in the
competitions.
With the KWPL title bagged, Oguso is hopeful that the Beldin
Odemba-coached side will sustain the mojo into the CECAFA Women Club
Championship which will be used as qualifiers for the CAF Women’s Champions
League.
“I now believe our Wednesday match against Bunyore Starlets will
be more of a training platform to us although it is a league match as we
prepare for the CECAFA assignment from 17 August this year,” Oguso said, noting
that it will be important for his technical bench to ensure Kenya Police
Bullets seals their unbeaten record.
“Mumboha is home and we need to show the nation that with good
structures anyone can lead any team to national glory and beyond,” he added.
Oguso says dethroning the four-time KWPL champions Vihiga Queens was not a walk in the park.
“Transparency in management, a dedicated technical bench signing
quality players attracts allies as it has been our case. The club owes no one
anything though it is also prudent on the part of the government and federation
to allocate resources to cushion teams in the KWPL,” Oguso stated, arguing that
ladies football has brought Kenya the long awaited glory especially after the
Junior Starlets qualified for World Cup.
His sentiments were echoed by Bunyore Starlets chairman Moses
Mabwa who said time has come for the government to consider having teams in the
KWPL get sponsorship because transport and meeting player needs was giving team
owners a headache.
“I would rather that the discussion to have the Sports Ministry
pump money in ladies football be actualized. FKF should ensure resources in the
men's top tier league also reach the ladies league also,” Mabwa said, warning
that he was preparing the team so that they can end the unbeaten record of
Kenya Police Bullets.
“We want to write history as the only team that beat this year’s
KWPL champions. Last season Bunyore Starlets finished in the ninth position but
if we beat Kenya Police we may finish the league in sixth place thanks to the
dedication of our technical bench,” he said.
Mabwa pursued a sponsor for Bunyore Starlets this season in vain
but has promised that they might get one even if it means to cater the half
needs of the team for the coming season.
Bunyore Starlets are currently seventh with 17 points with Kenya Police Bullets at the apex of the log with 46 points, ahead of the Mumboha final clash.
Starlets lost 4-2 to Kenya police in their first leg
played in Nairobi.
