Oguso calls for calm as Police search for missing Starlets' player Hato
Police Football Clubs Chief
Executive Officer (CEO) Chris Oguso has on Thursday called for calm as search for Police
Bullets player Jane Hato continues.
Oguso, a police
officer himself, confirmed that went missing on Wednesday evening when she was
expected to link up with her teammates ahead of their trip to Ethiopia for the
Cecafa Women’s Club Championship.
Since then, she has
been unreachable on phone, with her whereabouts unknown.
“It is disturbing
that she has not been seen till now, but we are sure she is alive wherever she
is. When we can’t find our player and we
can’t tell where she is, we take it as a missing person case, as a club and as
a government. However, based on our preliminary investigations, she is in the
hands of a person who knows her well,” explained Oguso.
He also confirmed
that they are in touch with the family of the player, to help with
investigations.
“I don’t think it
is related to football at all. It could be a family issue. Our police officers
are on this to find out she is where and with who. Once this is sorted out and
the player is ready, no doubt she will be linked up with the rest of teammates
in Ethiopia," added Oguso.
Earlier Thursday,
Football Kenya Federation that Hato was missing, saying her
whereabouts amount to “a concerning situation.”
In a statement sent to newsrooms
this afternoon, FKF confirmed Hato was set to link up with her teammates ahead
of their journey to Ethiopia at Police Sacco Stadium, but never arrived at the
meeting point.
FKF is also urged anyone with useful information regarding the Kenya U-20 captain to contact the nearest police station.
