Ochieng’s late winner takes Leopards to second, Bandari held
Substitute Hansel Ochieng scored in stoppage time to hand 10-man AFC Leopards a pivotal 1-0 win over Nairobi City Stars at Kasarani Annex as travelling Nzoia Sugar halted Bandari’s winning streak in Mombasa settling for a 1-1 draw.
At the Danson Mwanyumba Stadium in Taita Taveta County, Sofapaka were held to a barren draw by visiting Bidco United while coach Juma Abdallah got his first win since taking over at Western Stima beating Wazito 1-0 at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu.
At Kasarani, Ochieng rose from the bench to claim all the points for Ingwe, as the big cats rose to second on the FKF-PL table on 28points from 13 matches, displacing KCB who have a game in hand, against Gor Mahia on Sunday, to third, as Tusker maintained their lead at the apex of the log on 35 points from 15 games.
Leopards were however reduced to a man less after Robin Kamura was red-carded for a last-man challenge, denying a scoring opportunity to City.
At Mbaraki, Bandari were forced to come from behind to level in the 70th minute through danger man William Wadri.
Wadri received a pass from Atarina Amai and made no mistake cancelling out Gabriel Wandera opener for Nzoia.
The sugar millers started the game on a high note forcing Bandari’s defence to work extra hard in containing them with Felician Okanda and Wanjala Dennis causing harm in the Dockers back line.
Okanda had himself to blame after he missed a one-on-one chance with Bandari goalkeeper Justin Ndikumana in the 25th minute.
But it was Ndikumana who brought down Okanda moments later in the 28th minute for a penalty which Gabriel Wandera made no mistake with putting Nzoia in the lead.
Things got worse for the home side after they were reduced to 10 men when former Nzoia Sugar defender Brian Otieno was shown a red card for a dangerous tackle against the goalscorer Wandera, in the dying moments of the first half.
Bandari came back from the tunnel more energized with coach Andre Casa Mbungo introducing on-form Darius Msagha in place of Benjamin Mosha.
After just 10 minutes in the second half, Nzoia were also reduced to 10 men after Ian Karani roughly tackled Abdallah Hassan.
With 20 minutes to go, Ugandan Wadri equalised for Bandari after receiving a wonderful pass from Atariza Amai on the right flank.
