Nzoia to acquire Bungoma Queens, confirms Kadenge
Nzoia Sugar FC is working on acquiring FKF Division One
Women's side Bungoma Queens to meet the CAF Club Licensing requirements.
The
CAF Club Licensing requirement also comes when the Football Kenya Federation is
also pushing for all clubs in the league to have a women's football team ahead
of the 2023/2024 season.
To
fulfil this requirement, Nzoia Sugar FC chairman Evans Kadenge has confirmed
that they are looking to acquire Bungoma Queens.
He
said the development of the discussions between the two clubs is in an advanced
stage.
“Yes,
we want to acquire Bungoma Queens as our women's team. We have met with its
leadership severally, and we are almost reaching an agreement,” Kadenge told Citizen Digital.
On
her side, Bungoma Queens' team Manager Celestine Munyefu noted that the deal
would help her side meet some of the requirements put by the football governing
body as they fight to play in the top tier.
She
hopes the deal will help them get approval for their stadium (Sudi) and get
adequate funding from the sugar millers to facilitate their operations.
“This
is a blessing on our side, it has come at a time when we are pushing for promotion
to the top tier, and if the deal goes through it will help us get approval
for our stadium since Sudi already puts us in a better position.
“We
have also been struggling a lot with facilitation, and this deal means that the
millers will come in to support us. We are okay with this deal, and we are in
to make it happen,” Munyefu said.
Bungoma
Queens are currently second on FKF women's Division One Zone B with 45 points,
a point behind league leaders Gideon Starlets as the race for Kenya Women's
Premier League promotion enters the homestretch.
