Nzoia Sugar FC
head coach Charles Odero has pointed out defensive errors as the key factor to their
3-1 defeat to Naivas FC in a National Super League (NSL) encounter on Saturday.
The loss, which
marked Nzoia's first setback of the year after an impressive five-match winning
streak and one draw, left the coach frustrated with his team’s lack of
concentration at the back.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Odero further
emphasized that most of the players who featured in the match were young and
inexperienced, which contributed to costly mistakes that Naivas capitalized on.
"We had
several lapses in defense, and that cost us. Most of our players are new, but
we will work on rectifying our mistakes to bounce back stronger," said
Odero.
Despite the
loss, Nzoia FC remain determined to regain their form; "The team lost
while fighting, we didn't let it go hands down. It's a learning process for the
new lads who are just trying to adopt."
Nzoia Sugar FC
currently sit 10th in the NSL standings with 29 points after 20 matches. With
crucial fixtures ahead, Odero and his technical bench will be looking to
strengthen their defensive unit and restore the winning momentum that had
positioned them as a rising force in the league.
