Nzioka, Koigi claim Mwea Half Marathon titles
Iten based Alex Nzioka is the winner of the second edition
of Mwema Mwea National Reserve Half Marathon held on Saturday in Embu County.
The May 2024 Bucharest Half Marathon champion braved the hot
weather to take the top honours in the men’s race after clocking 1:02:49.
Hot on his heels were Martin Mumo from Machakos County and
Michael Kamau from Laikipia County, who finished second and third in 1:03:14
and 1:04:03 respectively.
In the corresponding women's race, the 2022 Singapore Half
Marathon, Alice Koigi triumphed after clocking 1:13:41, ahead of Embu's Eunice
Muchiri and Mary Munanu, who finished second and third after clocking in 1:16:01
and 1:16:05 respectively.
In the 10km race, Stanley Njihia emerged the winner in 32:05
followed closely by Harrison Muchira in 32:30.
In the women's category, Lydia Wanjira triumphed in 39:33
while Lilian Musenya came second in 41:11.
The Mwema marathon was held inside the Mwea National Reserve
in Makima, Mbeere South as part of marketing local tourism.
Proceeds from the race will be used to assist the students from
vulnerable families who can't afford school fees.
