Nyamunyamuh wants Vihiga Queens to be ‘near-perfect’ to reclaim WPL title

The four-time champions got the new season off to a flyer by defeating Ulinzi Starlets 1-0 at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu before were held to a goalless draw by Zetech Sparks last weekend.

Nyamunyamuh wants his charges to be ‘near perfect’ as they eye to reclaim the women’s title they relinquished last season.

“I think we have performed well for the last two matches we have played. It’s my hope that we continue winning our matches as we look forward to restoring the lost glory by lifting the title.”

“This Saturday we are meeting a new team in the league and I’m sure they have a lot of expectations. We don’t know their style of play but I’m sure we will give it our best and secure maximum points.”

Nyamuh however hailed his new recruits saying they have blended well with their teammates as he hopes they will push their agenda to win the title this season.

“I’m impressed by how fast my new recruits have gelled well with the rest of the players. In those first two matches I have known each one’s weaknesses as well as strengths and it’s my hope they will be blessings to the team,” he added.

The six new inclusions include midfielder Diana Ochieno, forward Susan Malda (Madira Assassins), Ambriyah Omar (Buruburu Academy), Eufreshier Ofai (Bunyore Starlets) and keeper Ruth Aturo (Uganda)

Elsewhere, Kibera Soccer Women FC take on Wadadia FC at the wolves den in Kajiado County with Ulinzi Starlets entertaining newbies Mombasa Olympic FC at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on Saturday.

At Mumboha Grounds Bunyore Starlets will welcome Kisumu All Starlets while Kisped Queens will wrap up the fixture against Zetech Sparks at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Kisumu.

Kisped Queens head coach Daniel Minjis wants his side to improve on defending as they seek a strong start to the new season.

“We are preparing well as a team as we look forward to play our first home match against Zetech.’’

Defender Kristin Kadima, who sat out their last match against Ulinzi Starlets due to an injury, is back in training, and Minjis believes it is a huge boost for the team when heading to the next match.

“We don’t have any injuries, we just have an additional because Kristin Kadima, who is our starter at the defence line. At the last match against Ulinzi we played Benedette at Kadima’s position, who got an injury at our first match against police bullets fc.’’

The newcomers suffered a 3-0 defeat against champions Police Bullets in the opening match before holding Ulinzi Starlets 1-1 last weekend.

First win chase

At Bungoma National Polytechnic, Bungoma Queens host Kisumu All Starlets as both sides chase their first wins of the season.

Bungoma Queens, currently sitting 10th on the table with zero points after their opening fixture, are determined to change their fortunes.

Club’s head Coach Godfrey Mabonga has made it clear that his team is prepared to do more than just compete.

“We are well-prepared to face Kisumu All Starlets this weekend. Our goal is not just to play, but to emerge victorious and secure the three points.”

On the other side, Kisumu All Starlets head into this clash placed eighth in the WPL table one point from two matches.

Coach Juma Said is confident of harvesting maximum points against Bungoma Queens.

“It will be our first encounter with Bungoma, but we have corrected the mistakes in our attack and are ready to score goals,” he said.

The Starlets have shown glimpses of attacking prowess but are yet to find the back of the net this season.

Saturday's match presents a golden opportunity for them to open their scoring account.
