Michael Olunga Football Academy (MOFA) Head Coach Charles
Odero has attributed his team’s 2-0 loss to Fortune Sacco on Sunday to
defensive lapses, citing careless mistakes at the back as the key reason for
the defeat.
The match, held at MOFA’s backyard, Moi Stadium
Kisumu, was expected to yield a better result for the hosts, especially given
their positive attacking display and home support.
MOFA are tied on points with Darajani Gogo and Fortune Sacco, the latter two enjoying a superior goal difference.
“We played good football overall, but it was the
small errors in defense that punished us. These are mistakes that can and
should be avoided,” Odero said post-match, clearly disappointed with the outcome.
The loss is a setback for MOFA as they continue
their campaign in the National Super League (NSL), where competition remains
tight for the top three positions. Despite the defeat, Odero remains optimistic
about his team's prospects.
“We’re still in the race. The teams ahead of us
have also dropped points recently," he added.
Odero further emphasised the need for immediate
improvement in defensive discipline and hinted at possible adjustments in
training to address the issue.
Having played 26 matches alreday, MOFA will need to bounce
back quickly if they hope to realise their ambition of a top-three finish.
