NSL: MCF humble Msa United 3-0 at Serani
Goals from James Olweny, John Okoth and John Ochieng secured a commanding away victory for MCF.
Mombasa United started the game on a promising note, with Harun Junior and Renson Wakalo both finding themselves in scoring positions, but neither was able to capitalise.
At the 30-minute mark, Olweny put the visitors ahead, beating an offside trap after a well-timed pass from striker Ezekiel Okare, and firing a powerful shot past Mombasa United's goalkeeper Kevin Tila.
Two minutes later, Okare was at it again, finding himself in the 18-yard box unmarked, but his shot was deflected for a corner.
Mombasa United struggled to cause any meaningful threat in the first half, and it was MCF who went to the break feeling they deserved more.
In the second half, MCF extended their lead just 10 minutes into it, when Okoth volleyed home a cross from John Mugo to beat a diving Tila.
Mombasa reacted to the two-goal deficit with the introduction of experienced players Dennis Magige and Wilberforce Lugogo, attempting to stop the MCF side, who showed no sign of slowing down.
In the 72nd minute, MCF sealed their win when Ochieng tapped in a cross from Olweny, following a fine trading of passes between him and Okare, making it 3-0.
With 10 minutes remaining, Mombasa United’s young striker Jackson Maruga almost pulled one back, but MCF goalkeeper Otieno Were made a crucial save to deny the hosts a consolation goal.
After the match, Mombasa United head coach Amadi Said expressed frustration over the loss, urging his players to improve.
“We prepared well, but the scoreline reflects a poor performance. However, there are some positives that we will take into our next match,” he said.
On the other hand, MCF FC coach Vincent Nyaberi praised his team and expressed his satisfaction with the win.
“This is the first time I’ve secured maximum points in Mombasa, and I’m happy with the result. I’m also impressed with the officiating, which played a key role in helping us earn the three points,” Nyaberi said.
