NSL: Cash-strapped Nzoia Sugar eye Nairobi United scalp

Cash-strapped National Super League (NSL) side Nzoia Sugar Football Club are determined to rise above the financial woes that have crippled their operations as they prepare to host Nairobi United this weekend.

The Bungoma-based outfit was unable to honor their fixture against SS Assad last weekend in Mombasa due to financial constraints.

The missed match highlighted the growing financial strain facing many clubs in the lower divisions of Kenyan football, with travel and logistics proving to be a major hurdle for teams outside the top-flight league.

Despite the challenges, Nzoia Sugar's interim coach, Peter Ginn, remains optimistic.

Speaking to Citizen Digital ahead of the crucial clash against Nairobi United, Ginn confirmed that the team has maintained its training schedule despite the difficult days at Sudi Stadium.

"It’s not been easy, but the boys have shown a strong mentality. We continue to train and prepare for the weekend’s game.

“Our focus is now fully on Nairobi United," said Ginn.

The club, which was relegated from the FKF Premier League last season, has had a tough start in the NSL, grappling with both on-field and off-field challenges.

However, the players’ commitment and the technical bench’s efforts to keep morale high have been commendable.

The upcoming fixture presents a chance for Nzoia Sugar to reignite their season and climb the NSL table.

A win over Nairobi United would restore confidence among the players and also send a strong message that the club is still in the fight despite their current predicaments.
