Bandari Queens continued their good run in Women  National Super League (WNSL) with a 1-0 victory over visitors Mathare United Women at Serani Sports Grounds - Mombasa County on Sunday.

Veneretah Mkoa scored the all important goal for Bandari in the fourth minute, heading home Florida Sidhani's corner-kick.

Speaking to Citizen Digital after the final whistle, Bandari Queens coach Janet Amuga was grateful for the "hard earned win."

"We knew the match would be tough but I'm happy our girls came with the same zeal they showed in the last match. I'm happy we have the three points from this and back to  where we belong," she observed.

Mathare's coach Ann Onyango was pleased with the result, saying her girls gave their all.

"We played well although our effort was not enough to get us at least a draw. The weather was cool but fatigue played a big role in our loss," she noted.

At the half-hour mark, Agnes Olesi almost doubled the lead but was denied by Mathare's goalkeeper Mellany Odoyo. A minute later, Mnyazi Saumu headed wide from Cynthia Okwado strong freekick, as the hosts persistently sought to double the advantage.

Beverline Otieno come close to equalise for Mathare in 35th but the center referee called a foul against Bandari Queens goalkeeper Belinda Akinyi, while she was pulling the trigger.

Mathare were forced to make a first half change, introducing goalkeeper Olive Otwaro in the place of Mellany Adeyo, who was seemingly uncomfortable.

A minute to top of first half, Mathare's Faith Atieno whipped a dangerous free-kick but went inches over the crossbar.

On start of second half, Olesi's had beaten Mathare's goalkeeper, only for the ball be cleared off the line by defender Elizabeth Onyango for a corner.

Ten minutes to end of the match, Mathare's Adhiambo Iddah collected the ball outside the 18-yard box before delivering a powerful shot that however over the bar, with keeper clearly beaten.

Bandari forwards Happy Mutta and Kadzo Charo were introduced late into the game but their efforts to add another goal were smothered by the hitherto Mathare defence, keen to avoid further damage.
