Ngala tips Gor to upstage Leopards in Sunday's 'Mashemeji Derby' despite rut in form
Former Gor Mahia
Assistant Secretary General Ronald Ngala is tipping the club to turn the tables
and beat rivals AFC Leopards in Sunday's Mashemeji Derby despite their rut in
form.
K'Ogalo have
been poor this term winning just two of their six matches and Ngala warns this
is not a pointer of what to expect on Sunday.
In the last
derby played in April, Gor got the better of Leopards courtesy of an Austin
Odhiambo solitary goal.
“Any derby
anywhere in the world can go either way. Even with Gor’s current poor run, they
can still prove a point on Sunday against their rivals,’’ said Ngala.
K'Ogalo have so
far lost to Nairobi City Stars and Coastal side Bandari. Leaders KCB and
Muranga Seal have also forced the record champions into draws, leaving Gor in
position 12 with 8 points, 9 shy of leaders KCB.
‘’We know Gor have been having multiple
problems, but this cannot be used to determine the Sunday outcome. They have
had time to discuss their intrigues and I trust they are already back on their
feet.’’
The record
champions recently fired their Brazilian Coach Leonardo Martins Neiva after
only six FKF Premier League matches in charge. Not much reason was given
regarding circumstances that led to his ouster, but football enthusiasts
believe it was as a result of their poor run this season.
Gor will now rely on their assistant coaches
Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno and Michael Nam who are steering the team on interim
bases as the search for a new tactician is on.
‘Zico’ rejoined
Gor as the assistant head coach at the beginning of the season after a spell
with KCB and Sofapaka.
It will be a big test for ‘Zico’ and Nam who
witnessed the sacked coach Martins Neiva encounter the wrath of the irate fans
after loss to Bandari at the Coast.
Meanwhile, Gor
team manager is on record slamming the fans for their actions whenever Gor
loses. Nyaoro said in an earlier interview that in a game of football, any team
should expect three different results, and only one can come at a time.
‘’There is always a win, a draw or a loss. Gor
is in the same league with the rest of the teams, meaning any result can go
their way. Our fans need to understand that every team comes to the pitch with
the intention of winning,"said Nyaoro.
A win for Gor on Sunday will bring back hope
to their fans that are seemingly restless with their poor run.
