New FKF president Mohammed meets FIFA boss Infantino
The two met on Monday during the 2024 CAF Awards event in Marrakech, Morocco, barely two weeks after Mohammed triumphed at the FKF national elections held at Kasarani Indoor Arena.
“What a pleasure to meet the newly elected Football Kenya President Hussein Mohamed in Marrakech. I congratulated Mr Mohamed on his recent election and assured him of mine and FIFA’s support as he takes on the new challenge of building Kenyan football. President Mohamed’s love for the game and experience in football administration will help him and his team to bring the sport together,” said Infantino.
“With plans for a new technical Centre in Machakos and strong FKF participation in FIFA programs notably in women’s football, the desire and determination to progress on and off the pitch are clear in this football loving-country,” he added.
Mohammed said his discussion with the FIFA boss centered on women’s football and infrastructure, which he termed as key in taking Kenyan football to the next level.
“We discussed governance, infrastructure, and growing Kenyan football, including women’s football. FIFA and FKF are planning a technical centre in Kenya, a key step in strengthening the game.”
Mohammed was elected the new FKF boss during the national elections held on December 7 after garnering 67 in the rerun.
He bagged 42 votes in round one with immediate former vice president Doris Petra securing 31 votes while former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Barry Otieno got 10, necessitating a second round of the exercise.
