Menengai Oilers back-rower Brian Ndirangu has left the club after seven years to join Westshore Rugby Football Club in Victoria, Canada.

Oilers confirmed the news through a statement, thanking their longest serving player for the time he has turned out for the side.

“The club confirms that after seven years of service, our most-capped player and one of our longest-serving members of the team, Brian Ndirangu, has left the club for Canada.”

Reflecting on his time with the Oilers where he has played over 100 games, Ndirangu expressed his gratitude to the club and fans.

“At the club, I have learnt that you do not have to be the biggest or the fastest. You just have to have the will, determination, and discipline to learn, and everything you set your eyes on is achievable.

"I have had seven incredible years with one team, one coach, and incredible teammates," he said, as quoted by the club.”

Ndirangu was Oiler’s first captain leading the team since its formation in 2016. Head coach Gibson Weru said they had lost a true servant of the club and wished him well in Canada.

“Brian is a player who served us well, and when he informed me of the opportunity he has, I was happy for him. This is an opportunity for him to develop as a player and to also grow as a man.

"We have mixed reactions as we will miss his services as an experienced player. We have developed him from the Nationwide League all the way to being a consistent player for the Simbas. We wish him all the best and we are sure he will come back at some point as a better player.”

Ndirangu is the latest talent export to Canada, after Kabras Sugar’s Dan Sikuta also moved to the North American country last year.
